    ConAgra Foods receives grant

ConAgra Foods announced that its Gilroy facility's recently implemented water conservation program was recognized with a ConAgra Foods Sustainable Development Award. The award comes with a $5,000 grant that the facility has awarded to Rebekah Children's Services Green Gardening Project.

The facility received the award for Water Resources - Conservation & Wastewater Management for the implementation of a water conservation program across multiple processes that saved nearly 146 million gallons of water in less than one year, reducing overall water use by 34 percent.

"Our team made some key process improvements to make the water conservation program a success," said Patrick Nuck, production manager at the Gilroy facility. "We're proud of the recognition and we're excited to put the $5,000 to use in the Gilroy community."

Rebekah Children's Services Green Gardening Project is aimed at giving youth hands-on lessons in environmental responsibility, awareness, and stewardship, sustainable gardening, composting, recycling, green concepts and pre-vocational training in the form of an intensive "green" program.

ConAgra Foods Sustainable Development Awards were given in each of five categories: Climate Change & Energy Efficiency; Water Resources - Conservation & Wastewater Management; Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling; Sustainable Packaging, Product and Process Innovation; and Sustainable Marketing. An additional "Sustainability Award of Excellence" was awarded for demonstrating the greatest overall impact.
