    Randall Scagliotti


    Randall H. Scagliotti, DVM, a native of Hollister, has received the Alumni Achievement Award from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

    Scagliotti, co-medical director and ophthalmologist, Eye Care for Animals, Inc., is being recognized for his leadership in specialty practice and his mentoring in the field of veterinary ophthalmology.

    Scagliotti is a pioneer and international authority in veterinary neuro-ophthalmology. With a special interest in diseases of the orbit, neuro-otology and neuro-ophthalmology, he has authored numerous research papers and book chapters, and has given more than 150 regional, national and international seminar presentations on medical and surgical aspects of ophthalmology.

    For more than 30 years he was a volunteer associate clinical professor in the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences, UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He also initiated and fostered business models that have become the standard for specialty practice.

    Scagliotti earned his D.V.M. degree at the UC Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1973, and completed a residency in ophthalmology in 1976. After completing an internship at Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston in 1974, he completed an M.S. degree in comparative pathology and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 1977. In the same year he co-founded the Sacramento Animal Medical Group and served as staff ophthalmologist. He also co-founded an internship program that is now a part of the VCA Sacramento Animal Medical Group and continues to train residents and interns.

    In 1999 he became vice president of medical operations and quality control, and also co-chief of medicine and co-hospital director for National Pet Care Centers. Since 2002 he has been a principal owner and member of the board of directors of Eye Care for Animals, Inc., one of the nation's premier referral hospitals for veterinary ophthalmology.

    He has served as president of the California Association of Certified Veterinary Specialists and president of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, and on the editorial advisory boards of California Veterinarian, published by the California Veterinary Medical Association, and Progress in Veterinary Neurology.



    Chase Warren

    Chase Warren has been accepted to UC Irvine School of Medicine and will start in August. He earned a bachelor's degree from UC Santa Barbara in 2006.

    Chase is the son of Rob and Karen Warren of Gilroy.



    Lori Duckett

    Lori Duckett, a sophomore majoring in earth systems science and policy, was named to the Dean's List at California State University, Monterey Bay for the spring semester. The Dean's List recognizes students who have achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 for a course load of at least 12 credits.

    Lori, daughter of Larry and Yvonne Duckett of Morgan Hill, is a 2007 graduate of Sobrato High School.



    Jessica Sweeney

    Army Sgt. Jessica G. Sweeney has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

    She is the daughter of Kenneth Sweeney of Morgan Hill and granddaughter of William Tai of Hawaii.

    Sweeney graduated in 2001 from Bridge Academy, Morgan Hill, and received a bachelor's degree in 2005 from the University of California, Berkeley.

    Chanel Sophia Lucio was born July 17, 2008 at Saint Louise to Gregory and Katie Lucio Jr. of Gilroy. She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces.
