HONORS
Molly Howe
Marine Sgt. Molly Howe graduated from the Marine Sergeants Course 5-08 on July 25. Of a class of 95, she was recognized as being in the top 10 in academic scores and the top 17 in physical fitness. She was the only female Marine in both categories.
The Sergeants Course is designed to prepare Staff NCOs (noncommissioned officers) to work more effectively with fellow Marines. The seven-week course includes subjects ranging from land navigation and patrolling to sword manual and close-order drill. Students are evaluated with both written and practical examinations.
Molly is currently at Camp Pendleton, serving with the 3rd Marine Air Wing attached to HMM268 as a career retention specialist.
Molly is the daughter of Jack and Ann Howe. She is a 2004 graduate of Gilroy High School and received an associate's degree from Palomar College in 2007.
Juliette Bowers
Juliette Bowers of Morgan Hill was named to the Dean's List at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. for the spring 2008 semester. She is a senior psychology major.
Local students honored at UCSB
Local undergraduate students at the University of California, Santa Barbara, have been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2008 quarter. These students honored are Bryant Gomer, Aleah Klingenberg, Emily McEwan, Royce Newcomb, Rebecca Webb and Alexander Wright, all of Morgan Hill, and Carrie Dent of San Martin.

Chrystel Marincich of Gilroy was named to the Dean's List at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. for the spring 2008 semester. She is an arts and science major.

Brooke Solimar Frausto was born July 18, 2008 at San Jose Kaiser Permanente to Marisol Guzman and Mario Frausto of Morgan Hill. She weighed 9 pounds, 7 ounces.

Cal and Marilyn Schlesinger of Gilroy will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 17. A gathering of family and friends will celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the couple, who have three children and five grandchildren.
