A 33-year-old Hollister man was arrested at his residence in the 1100 block of Versailles Drive at a barbecue party on July 4 when, police say, he detonated a "dry ice bomb" that injured an 8-year-old girl. According to police spokeswoman Rosie Betanio, the man had been detonating the bombs, which consisted of a plastic bottle, water and dry ice, in a barrel before detonating one in the street. Debris from the bomb hit the girl and caused minor burns to her side. The man was booked into San Benito County Jail.
Chemical bombing
An unknown juvenile male is being sought by police after they said he detonated several home-made chemical bombs July 4 in the 1400 block of Brighton Drive. Betanio descried the bombs and being made with a plastic bottle stuffed with tin foil and an explosive chemical. No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.
Domestic violence
A 21 year-old man from El Centro was arrested July 5 after police say he beat his 18-year-old girlfriend, dragged her two blocks down San Felipe Road and assaulted another 40-year-old female who tried to interfere. Betanio said the man punched his girlfriend twice in the face and torso before he dragged her and that he punched the other female in the eye - cutting it. The two women, both from Los Banos, received emergency treatment on site, and the man was booked into San Benito County Jail.
Burglary
A burglary was reported July 5 when police say an unknown suspect broke into a store in the 1600 Block of San Juan Road and stole two 18-packs, a 30-pack and three 12-packs of beer. No suspect information was available, and no arrests have been made.
