Patrons walk along San Benito Street at the 2008 Hollister Motorcycle Rally in this file photo. City officials expect another couple of weeks before they'll release numbers on the event.
City Manager Clint Quilter this week said officials aren't ready to release numbers on Hollister's merchandise sales at this year's biker rally and that he didn't have expectations yet for the final result.
This year's Hollister Motorcycle Rally - which ended July 13 - was the first at which the city invested $285,000 in taxpayer dollars to buy "official" merchandise for sale at the event. City officials had estimated the move would amount to a net gain, with the low projection being an $85,000 profit.
Quilter said officials are "still gathering our costs" - he noted law enforcement in particular - and expected it would be another couple of weeks before they have final numbers.
That time frame also allows officials to figure in whatever remaining T-shirts Hollister rally promoter Seth Doulton can sell on the city's behalf at the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota, which ends Sunday.
"We're just waiting to put it all together," Quilter said.
