The San Benito County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved two proposals on the El Rancho San Benito project - moving forward on the environmental impact review and hiring a consultant to do the work.
The environmental impact review is not to exceed $95,520 and should be done in a year, said County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson. It's the next major step toward the potential construction of El Rancho San Benito - a proposed multi-use development of 6,800 units off Highway 25 near the Santa Clara County border.
The second item was to approve the appointment of Denise Duffy & Associates as project managers for the proposed development. Planning Director Art Henriques said that Duffy's work will include such oversight as setting up meetings, making appointments and keeping the county up to date.
Thompson said the $200,000 cost will be repaid to the county as part of the contract with DMB. She added that it's the biggest project the county has ever processed and officials want to ensure that it is done well.
