Millie Lugo has bagged the title of New York City's Best Bagger.
Lugo competed against 17 others Tuesday to see who could best pack chips, glass-bottled spaghetti sauce, canned soup and other groceries into shopping bags. Contestants were judged on speed, style, bag-building technique and, most importantly, weight distribution between bags.
The D'Agostino Supermarkets event is part of a program in which grocery baggers nationwide compete for prizes and the title of America's Best Bagger.
Lugo is a co-manager at a D'Agostino store. She started out as a cashier and bagger. She received the $500 first prize in the local contest.
Edie Hidalgo came in second and won $250. Third-place winner Messihia Manning received points toward free groceries.
