City awards last contract for sewer project

The sixth and final contract for the new wastewater plant was awarded to ValleyCrest Landscape Development on Oct. 20.

The Pleasanton-based company will install turf at the airport for "dust control and beautification," said City Engineering Manager Steve Wittry, adding that the installation will help control weeds.

Water for the turf project will be provided from the newly completed sewer plant, which can turn sewage into a re-useable commodity. Wittry said this project will be a "long-term use of recycled water" and added that the recycled water project is in place to prove to the regional water control board that water coming from the plant will have a place to go for the next 15 years.

The project is slated to be completed in the spring of next year. City officials recently opened the new wastewater plant for use, setting the stage for a likely lifting of the building moratorium in December.
