Woman found along Hwy. 156 with stab wounds
Jun 17, 2009
 By The Free Lance Staff

A 34-year-old Watsonville woman was found along Highway 156 with multiple stab wounds Sunday, but she survived and was in stable condition at a Bay Area hospital as of publication.

A driver found the woman along the shoulder of Highway 156 near Monterey Street in San Juan Bautista, and she was airlifted to a hospital, said Detective Ed Nino with the San Benito County Sheriff's Office. Nino said investigators believe the attack - the detective described the array of wounds as "all over her body" - occurred near Highway 156.

"We believe that the stabbing occurred here near the location where she was discovered, near the shoulder of the road," Nino said.

The victim did identify some names of potential suspects, and authorities are looking into those leads, Nino said. They also are looking into "a possible motive," but Nino said he could not comment on that part of the investigation.

He could not confirm what type of knife or weapon was used in the attack, other than to say it was some sort of "edged" tool, while authorities did not find evidence of it near the scene.

Nino said the victim had been continuing to recuperate in the Bay Area hospital as of Wednesday.
