Muenzer files statement for potential District 4 run
Sep 21, 2009
 By Kollin Kosmicki

HOLLISTER

Downtown store owner Jerry Muenzer has filed a campaign document indicating an intention to possibly run for the District 4 county board seat held by Supervisor Reb Monaco.

Muenzer filed a statement of organization for a campaign committee on Sept. 15 for the June 2010 primary ballot. He would face Monaco, who defeated opponents Tracie Cone and John Hodges in 2006. Monaco started his tenure in 2002, when he beat out incumbent Ron Rodrigues in the general election.

Muenzer is perhaps best known as owner of Muenzer's Cyclery & Sports Center. He decided to run, he said, because he has been involved for many years with the city through the Hollister Downtown Association and he wants "to get involved with the county."

"I feel there's a lot of stuff that can be done, a lot of potential with economic development, which everybody talks about," said Muenzer, who lives on Bolado Road in Tres Pinos. "But I really believe that. We need to get our local contractors back to work here."

Monaco noted how he has had "many opponents" and that he had talked to Muenzer about his counterpart's candidacy.

"I've known him for many, many years," Monaco said. "I told him I always run clean campaigns. He understands that."
