City cuts donations to nonprofits by 5 percent

A slate of nonprofit organizations will continue to receive contributions from the city, but with a 5 percent decrease this fiscal year due to Hollister's continued deficits.

The decrease in contributions aligns with the expected 5 percent pay cut to city employees. City Manager Clint Quilter on Monday announced five of six employee groups informally had accepted the reductions. Council members in examining a revised budget at the meeting also indicated a consensus to reduce the nonprofit contributions by that same amount.

Several representatives from area nonprofits still receiving funds attended the meeting and thanked council members for continuing to support their groups.

Council members did not discuss the budgeted amount allocated to nonprofits, some of which include the Hollister Youth Alliance, the Emmaus House and the Seniors Council. Finance Director Robert Galvan could not be reached immediately to confirm the figures.
