The cold and frosty nights mean it's time for our Crimson Crusader to switch from the lycra-blend tights to ruby-hued long johns. But the dropping mercury in San Benito County thermometers hasn't stopped our hero from solving the community's problems, one misplaced piece of garbage at a time.

Our first caller, a Hollister woman, wanted to know if the Free Lance would be publishing young readers' letters to Santa. The Crimson Crusader sent a formal inquiry to the newspaper's editor, Kollin Kosmicki, asking if this could be done. Kosmicki said that he thought it would be a good idea, and pointed out that dear Saint Nick is an avid reader of the Free Lance (rumor has it his "naughty" list comes directly from San Benito County's Most Wanted list). Unfortunately, it might be a little too late in the year to get the campaign going in time for Christmas morning. The Crimson Crusader suggests that tiny tots with their eyes all aglow skip the middleman and send their letters directly to the jolly guy up north.

HERO'S WEAKNESS

It's true that most heroes have their weaknesses. For Superman, it was kryptonite. For Achilles, it was his heel. The Crimson Crusader has long been considered infallible, but sadly it's true - dear readers - even our hero has a great downfall. Unfamiliar with this new "Internet" phenomenon, we did not realize that many a reader were attempting to contact the caped crusader on the Free Lance's Web site. Our hero would like to take this opportunity to apologize profusely to all readers whose queries previously went unanswered. After a quick lesson on the Web, the caped crusader would like to assure the readers we are now well versed in using e-mail and writing in html, and we even setting up a MySpace page. Henceforth, any technology-savvy readers who would like to contact our hero can do so by accessing the Free Lance's Web site at www.freelancenews.com and clicking on the Red Phone icon.

Our hero is standing by, waiting for your questions and concerns.
