Thanks for help with tax-aide program

Dear Editor,

I wish to thank the Hollister Free Lance for publishing information on the AARP Tax-Aide program, also the wonderful volunteers who donated their time and expertise to offer, free of charge, personal income tax preparation.

Thank you: Harriet Brin, Vernon Escobar, Doris Figini, Jim Libby, Patti Mauerman, James Rodakis, Ed Rollins, Betty Stimson and Local Coordinator Lowell Shearin.

You are all the greatest! The AARP Foundation and the IRS thanks you very much as you have provided a community service which is greatly appreciated by the clientelle served namely low and moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

We are in need of more volunteers to help with the Tax-Aide program by this coming September 2008. Please call Dolly if you or anyone you know can help.

Dolly De Vasier, district coordinator

Dems would take us from bad to worse

Dear Editor,

About a year ago, consumer confidence was at a two-year high. Gasoline was barely above $2 a gallon. Now consumer confidence is at a 26-year low. Gasoline is approaching $4 a gallon.

What happened?

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed took over our legislative bodies in Washington, DC. They mandated corn be used to replace gasoline resulting in higher prices for food. To their credit, they did name a bunch of Post Office buildings.

Now, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama want to raise your taxes when either becomes president. We have gone from bad to worse with the potential of going even worse.

Marvin L. Jones, Hollister
