Observer thinks De La Cruz has represented District 5 well in his first four years
Dear Editor,

Just a short letter with my opinion about our supervisors' election. We have two to be reelected and one to be replaced. I've been sitting at these meetings of our board of supervisors most regularly. I feel I am able to kind of evaluate their performances. In my opinion, Jaime De La Cruz is serving his District 5 very professionally. He does his homework very effectively.

As a chairman of the board, I have never seen him lose control. The people of District 5 are very well represented with Jaime De La Cruz. In my opinion he deserves to be reelected. I feel he will be more effective for the next four years. Good luck, Jaime. In my opinion you have been serving your county very well. I hope the people of District 5 feel the same way as I do. As for the others running with competition, I wish that the best qualified wins. We are taking a trip to the Midwest, and I hope I learn enough to bring it back with me.

Reader dislikes paper's new format
Dear Editor,

I find the relatively new format of your paper unsatisfactory. I paid for five papers a week, and now I receive but two. Your front page is now covered by pictures, large and small, but print news is scant. In a time of falling circulation and readership, newspapers such as yours and the San Jose Mercury News have substituted pictures for new text.

I suppose it is cheaper to print photos than to hire staff to write factual news stories, but when my subscription of the past 40 years expires, I will not renew it. TV provides better pictures: The Wall Street Journal still prints news and comments.
