Letters: Roses everywhere

Roses everywhere
Dear Editor,

Driving around Hollister on Mother's Day it appeared there were 10 new floral shops. I stopped by a legitimate floral shop downtown on Sunday to buy my mom a bouquet of roses knowing my tax dollars were going back into the community. At the corner of Nash and Sunnyslope, I stopped by a fly-by-night man selling flowers. I asked him where is business license was - no answer. The same question at the fuel station at the Texaco fuel station. As a legitimate business owner who has to pay for a business license, how is it possible these people continue to sell within the city limits? Who polices these infractions, and how about the legitimate floral shops who suffer when people stop to buy there floral arrangements on a dusty corner of Hollister. Think twice when you buy from these law-breaking individuals as your money leaves the community.

Support youth sports
Dear Editor,

Please pass along my personal invitation to the community for a night out at the ballpark, the Babe Ruth Ball Park. Please join my family and me for a relaxing night watching a great sport with good food. Come on out and support the youth. These kids are having fun and I bet they would love it if more people came to root them on. These young adults have chosen to spend their time constructively and that's why my family spends time volunteering in the "snack shack". We love talking with the kids and their family and friends. They have games at 5:30 p.m. almost nightly and every weekend. You can sit in the stands or bring a comfortable chair and sit wherever you want. On Sunday's they have Senior Babe Ruth, and although it's only two teams, they play each other every Sunday; sometimes with a double header. These kids are great! I want to give them my own special thanks for giving me joy of watching them play and bringing community members together. There is always room for more community members. It's a real down-home experience. The schedule for games is on their Web site at www.eteamz.com/sanbenitobaberuth.com. I hope to see some of you there. Stop by the snack bar, and I will wait on you personally if I am volunteering when you come by.
