We'll know much more about the successes and failures of this year's Hollister Motorcycle Rally on Monday.
But whether visitors come in similar numbers as prior Hollister rallies, we should be thankful they're here and show them the kind of hospitality that will keep bikers coming back.
Getting them back year after year, after all, is the only way to keep this great tradition riding.
We commend all the organizers who appear well prepared for the 61st anniversary of the original "invasion." We expect the 2008 Hollister Motorcycle Rally - the first year in which the City of Hollister and San Benito County Chamber of Commerce have been involved in official merchandise sales - will be another success.
Words of encouragement
We encourage everyone heading down for the party to be safe at all times, especially on the roads, where tragedy has occurred all too often on previous rally weekends.
We also encourage a close examination of all visiting vendors to curb the amount of sales tax fraud they've gotten away with in the past. And once the rally is finished, there should be a much speedier accounting of overall revenues and costs than last year so leaders can make a reasoned decision, earlier than later, about next year.
Above all, to the bikers, welcome back. We appreciate that you're here with us again to celebrate Hollister's biker roots. Enjoy the weekend and come back next year.
