Thumbs Up: Ridgemark, graduates and a Supreme honor

THUMBS UP: New Ridgemark owner has 'vision'

Silicon Valley-based investor John Kehriotis of JKM Investments recently purchased the deed to Ridgemark Golf & Country Club and now has official ownership and control of the property. Rigemark for years has badly needed a financial rescue and at times, even in recent months, has faced the grim prospect of being forced to shut its doors. Kehriotis has the capital and imagination to reinvent the golf course, lodging and restaurant that drive the club's revenue. He already has started making improvements and has plans for a resort-style hotel. There is a ton of potential at Ridgemark, and a change at the top has been needed for a long time. So whatever Kehriotis brings to the table is better than nothing, and we congratulate the investor for seeing what San Benito County has to offer.

THUMBS UP: Congrats to 2009 graduates

San Benito High School's graduating Class of 2008 highlighted a bevy of talent and enthusiasm among more than 600 students to receive diplomas Friday before thousands of family and friends. Others in the county graduated from San Andreas last week at the Veterans Memorial Building, and some will walk across the stage Thursday at the Anzar High School ceremony. Along with locals graduating from Gavilan College this year, congratulations on your achievements and keep working toward your goals.

THUMBS UP: Public defender admitted to Supreme Court bar

Public Defender Gregory LaForge last week received admission to the U.S. Supreme Court bar association. It says a lot for LaForge. Such a nomination requires sponsorship from two other Supreme Court bar members, and only about 20 percent of attorneys are accepted when they try. It also shows LaForge has the initiative to take on the biggest of challenges at the highest level, and that he has the confidence to showcase his skills with the best of them in the courtroom.
