Before spending 17 years painting cars, Dave Dominguez worked at Suds Car Wash and Detail Center as a teenager.

And in 2003, when the opportunity came Dominguez' way to buy the car wash and change careers, he didn't hesitate.

"Knowing about cars and their paint, I figured I could help a lot of people," Dominguez said.

Now that he's put the paint gun down, the 43-year-old hopes he can provide customers information about keeping their car's finish looking new.

The highly visible location of Suds Car Wash and Detail Center has been keeping the rides of Hollister residents clean since the 1970s. A line of cars can be seen many mornings turning out of the Suds' drive onto and running east on Santa Ana Road.

Dominguez, along with his wife Kelly, bought the car wash to realize the dream of owning a small business and to better themselves, he said.

Why did Suds get voted best car wash in Hollister?

"Because we have wonderful service and we're friendly," Kelly Dominguez said.

The Dominguezes employ 17 people to provide full-service car washing and detailing. Those employees keep busy giving vehicles a delicate hand wash and dry.

The basic wash and dry is $8 for cars and $9 for trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles, Kelly Dominguez said.
