Lady 'Balers sweep past Seaside
Aug 26, 2008

HOLLISTER

Shooting for their 18th victory in 19 matches dating back to last season, the San Benito girls tennis team was able to take advantage of a small Seaside squad Tuesday, as they earned their third win of the season, 7-0.

Seaside brought just six players to the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, and were forced to forfeit their No. 3 and No. 4 doubles teams as a result.

Although sticking with his top two singles players, Haybaler coach Ed Cecena was given the chance to play up some of his junior varsity players at the varsity level. With a clean sweep of the visiting Spartans, those called up to play varsity Tuesday stepped into the spotlight.

No. 3 singles player Kristina Slavic won in straight sets over Meriam Kanaka, 6-0, 6-0, while No. 4 singles player Danielle Dube defeated Michelle Ho 6-3, 6-1.

San Benito's top two singles players, No. 1 Amanda Marshall and No. 2 Abbie Woods, marched past Corina Reyes and Keri Moon 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

In doubles, the lone match also went in San Benito's favor, as Jessica Vest and Erin Glasspool teamed up to beat Marie Jarman and Mariah Rivo 6-0, 6-0.

San Benito (3-0) will host Morgan Hill's Live Oak on Thursday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister at 3:30 p.m.
