The Hollister Junior 'Balers 11U travel baseball team won their second consecutive travel tournament recently after compiling a 4-1 record at the annual Summer Sizzler in Martinez.
The Junior 'Balers began the weekend by finishing 1-1 after the first day, though. On Saturday, they beat the Bay Area Bandits 5-4, but then fell to Petaluma Baseball 11-6.
On Sunday, the team found themselves in last place of Pool B. To win the championship, they were going to have to win three games in a row, which is just what they did.
The first game on Sunday was against the Salinas Knockouts; the Junior 'Balers won by a score of 17-6. They then beat the Bay Area Bandits for a second time by a score of 7-4. Their final game was against the Bombers of San Rafael, which the Junior 'Balers were able to prove victorious against by a score of 5-1.
The pitching was led by Andrew Sotelo (2-0, one save), Tyler Biersdorff (1-1, one save), Adam Gonzales (1-0) and Daniel Hopkins (one save). The batting averages reflect the fine hitting of the entire team: Andrew Sotelo (.600), Jose Rodriguez (.529), Yurixa Gonzalez (.462), Joe Coffelt (.385), Vincent Parker (.333), Tyler Biersdorff (.333), Macen Schwehr (.333), Adam Gonzales (.267), and David Werolin (.167).
The 'Balers are coached by CR Gonzales, Anthony Sotelo, and Jose Rodriguez.
