The Gavilan Rams fell to City College of San Francisco on Friday, 3-0, and remain in search of their first league win in the Coast Conference.
"They're a really good team," Rams coach Albert Marques said. "We actually played really well."
It was the first game in a week for Gavilan, which postponed its Tuesday match-up with West Valley College. And with CCSF ranked No. 3 coming into the contest, it wasn't necessarily an easy return.
CCSF took a 1-0 lead in the first half after a cross ball bounced off the back of a teammate's head and went into the net, Marques said, and allowed the visitor's to take a one-goal edge to halftime.
In the second half, Marques said his team nearly knotted it at 1-all.
"We had a great shot on goal and it hit the post and didn't go in," Marques said. "They got a little frustrated."
The Rams were called for a penalty inside the box with 15 minutes remaining in the contest when Gavilan's goalie was called for tripping. The foul supplied CCSF with a penalty kick, which they converted to take a two-goal lead late in the game.
"That took the wind out of us," Marques said.
CCSF tacked on another score in the waning minutes to post the 3-0 victory on Gavilan, which is now 0-2 in the Coast Conference, 4-4 overall.
"I was proud of the team, even though we lost," Marques said.
Gavilan will play Foothill College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Rams will then return home on Friday to host Chabot College at 4 p.m. in Gilroy.
