The Gavilan men's soccer team was already tremendously young, with only three sophomores on its 19-man roster. Now it's also lacking bodies.
Rams coach Albert Marques said after Tuesday's 7-0 loss to De Anza College in Cupertino that he lost seven of his players recently, bringing his 19-man roster down to 12.
Marques said players were forced to leave the team due to work and grades. The result was having just one substitute against De Anza.
"We did not play well and we had a lot of problems," Marques said. "We had 12 guys at De Anza and we just could not make things happen."
Gavilan is now 0-7 in the Coast Conference, 4-9 overall.
"We were playing well, but the whole chemistry of the team has changed," Marques said. "As coaches, we're gonna try and change some formations and move some players around to hopefully get some better results."
The Rams will visit Monterey Peninsula College on Friday at 2 p.m.
"The challenge for us is to salvage our season the best we can," Marques said.
